What to Expect

On Sundays we take God seriously but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our worship services are reverent, biblical, gospel centered and rooted in history. People will dress in what they are comfortable with, ranging from casual clothes you’d wear to the shops to more smart casual.

If you aren’t used to a Reformed worship service, it might feel a bit different at first. Our liturgy isn’t just a list of things to tick off; it’s has a gospel-shaped pattern. These biblical rhythms transform us and equip us to carry out that gospel-shaped pattern into our week.

Here’s what you can expect:

• Call to Worship: We begin by hearing a biblical call to worship, reminding us of God’s greatness and inviting us to gather in His presence.
• Greeting: God greets His gathered people with words of grace and peace from Scripture, reminding us that we come not as strangers, but as those welcomed by Him.
• Our Declaration (The Votum): We publicly declare our trust in God, acknowledging that our help and hope are found in the Lord the maker of heaven and earth as we begin worship together (Psalm 124:8).
• Singing: We sing a mix of old and new songs (including Psalms) that are theologically rich, lifting our hearts in praise and adoration to God.
• Prayer: Throughout the service, we engage in prayer, bringing our praises, confessions, thanksgiving, and requests before God. We pray for our church, our community, and the world, trusting in God’s power and care.
• Reading of the Law and Confession of Sin: We read a passage summarising God’s law to reflect on His holiness and acknowledge our need for His grace. Together, we confess our sins, trusting in His mercy.
• Assurance of Pardon: We are reminded of God’s forgiveness through the gospel, renewing our hope in Christ.
• Confession of Faith: We will confess our faith together by reciting a historic creed or section of a Reformed Confession or Catechism.
• Reading the Bible: God’s Word is central to our worship. We read Scripture together as a congregation, hearing directly from God’s truth.
• Preaching: The sermon is the central part of our service, where we hear God’s Word faithfully preached, the Gospel proclaimed and applied to our lives.
• The Lord’s Supper and Baptisms: We have the Lord’s Supper nearly every 6 weeks and will occasionally have Baptisms.
• Benediction: We conclude with a benediction, a blessing that sends us out into the world to live for God’s glory.
• Doxology: In response to God’s blessing we praise him one last time with a song giving glory to God.

Our services usually take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Stick around afterwards for morning tea and a chat. Whether you are new to church or have been a believer for years, you are welcome to join us!

Children in Church

We believe that our children belong in the worship service with us. Our gospel-centered liturgy is just as important and formative for them as it is for adults. God promises to work through his ordinary means of grace, the preaching of the Gospel, the sacraments, and prayer, and this is true for children as well. We understand that little ones can make noise, and we see this as a natural part of them learning to participate. Having them in the service is a wonderful opportunity for parents to model true worship firsthand and gently guide their children in how to engage with God. Please know that their sounds are not a distraction but a beautiful sign of life and growth in our church family.

Because a parent is the primary influence and teacher in their child’s life, the shaping of their faith goes far beyond Sunday mornings. We encourage parents to take up the vital role of daily teaching their children the Bible through regular family worship and catechesis at home.
